  1. The retro active guilt manipulation thing will go away when people stop reacting to it. Unfortunately, for those who parse life through “feelz” that won’t be happening soon.

  2. “it did not make America rich.”

If slavery made people richer, we probably would still have slavery. It nice to think people became more moral. it is probably false.
Slavery is like any other crime.
More crime does not make people richer- if it did, why waste public resources trying to reduce crime.
So more freedom, makes everyone richer. Limiting the freedom of any group of people [like women} will just make people poorer.
So, women movement was also not moral issue, it was about stop being dumb.

    1. I think the abolitionists would disagree.

Slavery has a long history. It made people richer in the past. That it doesn’t exist today like it did in the past*, isn’t some sort of natural evolution, it took the work of people whose intent was to end it.

      * Slavery still exists, even in some countries where the people are very wealthy.

I think the industrial revolution ended slavery- or if industrial revolution is “natural evolution”. then some sort of natural evolution did end slavery.
The industrial revolution allow women to have “enough time”, or without industrial revolution- no women movement.
Turn clock back to “the good times of pre-industrial revolution world order”, you will return to slavery.
Not moral issue, the North were more part of industrial revolution, rather than that they were somehow inherently more moral people- as compared to the South.
