  1. I’m trying really, really hard not to be amused by this, but it’s like a real-life vignette out of a Heinlein story — sort of like David Duke getting into a cage match with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

  2. I can’t think of anything appropriate to say, but since that’s never stopped me before…

I keep envisioning an airborne drop of gay soldiers to intervene (with the old style WW2 chutes, but in pastels.)

    What can I say?

  3. The comments following the article are actually pretty good. More please.

I’m hoping Rand follows up with confrontation video?

  4. My reaction to this protest is the same as my first thoughts about the Spanish Civil War: “Who in the heck do you root for?”

To make the choice even tougher, it’s the constituency that perpetually keeps John Dingell in office.

On another note, Ken Prescott wins the Gateway Pundit thread:

    WE WANT THUNDERDOME!

TWO CULTS ENTER! ONE CULT LEAVES!

  5. I hope the Patriot Guard Riders makes sure noboby slashes tires on the Westboro vans before they leave on their trip. They can then go find a good vantage point to eat popcorn and drink down some slurpees.

  6. A few years ago, those Westboro loons came to town to protest a military funeral. As I drove past them, I once again regretted I no longer had access to hand grenades.

  7. Good lord, jjs, think of the by-standers! And far as I know, the Phelps clan never travels armed – the law is their weapon.

Still, let’s hope the Islamic lawfare brigade turns out in force. Nothing sounds sweeter than those two covens of serial barratry wasting their resources on each other, and irritating other lawyers in the bargain.

  8. Never thought I would say this, but I am rooting for the Islamoids. We can deal with them when the time comes, but the Westboro people (and I use the word ‘people’ VERY loosely here) are using the protections of the First Ammendment for a truly hateful purpose, and there seems to be very little that can be done about them.

Do not mistake my point, I would be quite happy to see both sides exterminate one another (hell, I would be happy to pick up the bill for the ammo, if it came to that), but the Dearborn crowd can be dealt with in a more conventional fashion later…

Yeah, I feel the same way when Kansas City or San Diego plays football against Oakland* – isn’t there a way for both sides to lose?

*The Oakland Raiders are the 4th point on the Axis of Evil. Their defeat is a moral imperative.
