  1. It’s worth recalling that in the past few years, the minimum wage went up by a considerable amount, from $5.15 per hour in 2006 to $7.25 per hour in 2009. During this same period we saw a massive increase in unemployment among the very people that were earning close to minimum wage. Sure, it might have been due to the recession, which selectively hurts young black males, for example, but that’s a mighty big coincidence.
