One Soul Mate
on September 5, 2012 at 7:22 amWhile it’s a nice romantic notion, the idea that there is just one person for you always struck me as nonsense, because the chances of finding them would be infinitesimal. But the indispensable XKCD actually runs the numbers.
As some comedian said years ago, What if the one person meant for you is the one you just flipped off on the freeway?
It’s been a long time since I read it, but I think one of the stories in the Dangerous Visions books involved a One True Love who happened to be of a different species.
I think that actually happened to me about 12 years ago, with my neighbor’s cat Chloe. And it was definitely mutual.
I had never had a cat before in my life. I ended up adopting two of Chloe’s kittens, who were born in my bedroom closet.
Someone should cross the soul mate meme with the concept behind the film “Minority Report.”
