  1. Also see Taranto from yesterday.

Meanwhile, the lesson of the Oates twit-storm seems to be that for today’s politically correct left, protecting Muslims from insult is a higher priority than protecting women from sexual violence.

    And:

And “Islamophobia” is no more than a[n extremely lazy and lame attempt at a] conversation-stopper: one of many politically correct buzzwords that would be listed as synonyms for “shut up” if there were a Gramsci’s Thesaurus.

So bob-1, you can just say “shut up” from now on; we’ll know what you’re trying to communicate.

  2. Gunther: I paint portraits. It is easy: I just put paint in a pressure washer!

Avi: You could use Da Vinci Kolinsky red sable fine tip brushes to achieve a much better

Gunther [ interrupting ] : Blah blah blah. ‘Paint brush’ is just another way of saying ‘Stop it!’ I can paint my portraits however I want!

    1. “John if you use that thing it’s going to spray that stuff everywhere.”
“Well, where’s it going to spray it that it doesn’t belong?”
“On those Christians over there that are stoning those homosexuals. Or that group of jewish suicide bombers headed for a wedding party. Or those Buddhists shooting their own daughters so they won’t be taught to read. Or that group of gang-rape druids getting ready for a night on the town. And that crowd of atheists, they’re just pressure-cooking some vegetables.”
“You’re right, I’d better get a filter on this thing”

  3. The real outrage here is that the rapists didn’t hold free and open elections, perhaps a referendum, on the acceptability of gang rape. Remember, if everyone votes on it, then it’s okay!

  4. I understand that what the gangs of men are doing is wrong, and in my mind, they deserve the death penalty for it. But WHY do these women keep walking in there, dressed ‘western style’ in a country in the midst of a religious rebellion?

On the religious front, it IS a Muslim majority country. So even the ‘moderates’ might see adult, females, in jeans / pants, short sleeve shirts, with NO head coverings as being ‘whorish’. I can tell you the one thing I learned being in the Navy.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

It seems to me that the college educated, worldly, ‘reporterettes’ should see that as a requirement for NOT getting attacked, and thus go into crowds dressed Muslim style, or with PLENTY of protection, if they wish to dress as they would in NY, London or Paris.

But being uneducated, I fall back on the rules my old grand daddy taught me. One of which is, if you tease the big dog, DON’T be surprised or mad at the dog WHEN he bites you.

He emphasized the WHEN, it was not an IF. Given the situation in Egypt or the M.E. in general, it’s a huge WHEN in my mind, for women to be raped in a huge group of rioting / protesting Muslim men.

  5. “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”

That is the precise point of conflict!

Are we in Rome? …or the Nejd?

The people of many countries, many of whom have religions with longer histories in those countries than the entire lifespan of the Moslem faith, much less its tenure in a specific area, who have either Moslem majorities, or Moslem minorities, are now finding themselves assaulted. They have no willingness that “the Pope be Moslem”, much less that a salafist or khomeinist minority of Islam should be dominant in determining the laws of the land. They have not ceded sovereignty to Salafism or Khomeinism! The violence against them is specifically intended to make them cede such sovereignty.

I have found in my own family the belief that you should not go to anyplace in town you might find objections to you, even here in Portland. They would not listen to the point of ceding control of dress, or skin color, being the first step to ceding sovereignty. That would mean accepting that violent physical conflict is a *normal* part of life in the societies of large obstreperously violent species like Homo Sapiens Sapiens. It may be rare in any one time and place. It may be common. That does not affect the point that it is a human norm!

IMHO, these women should be thoroughly trained, and then armed by their governments. Of course, as in Europe, and Chicago, these governments often want no part of a population able to defend themselves, and cannot admit the government cannot, or will not.
