  1. I remember that day quite well. for two reasons.

    The first one is obvious.

Landing on the MOON, was a huge accomplishment. I grew up with the space program / space race and I was old enough by 1969 to fully understand that we were competing with the USSR for bragging rights and the propaganda aspect. All that political stuff aside, for a teen aged boy watching it on TV, it was ALL the science fiction stories, adventure stories and explorer stories I’d ever read, all wrapped into one REAL event!

The second thing I always remember about that evening, is my father.

He was at work when they landed, but at home when Cdr. Armstrong finally stepped onto the surface. my dad made a ‘family famous’ statement.

“…those guys are out of their GD minds…if it had been me, I would have jumped out of that thing, filled my pockets full of dust, dirt and anything that would fit, then I would have jumped BACK in there and fired that SOB up to make sure I could get OFF the moon!”

    1. Who cares? Its not like they are the first baby born in space or something of real importance…

      1. They seem like nice people and I wish them well, but frankly I have neither time nor space to care about “the Royals”. I leave that sort of thing to People Magazine and the sort of folks to whom the whole bloodline is a sort of live-action soap opera.
