Although the one in Contact was an oddity in that I don’t think you could easily arrange that even in a simulated Universe… the power to set up that sort of Easter egg (except by sleight-of-hand) would be a Neat Trick indeed.
I think Pournelle and the Speculist are confusing science with science fiction.
