  1. Interesting article. I wonder if there is any relation with the huge underwater landslide off of Ireland which I have also heard as an explanation of the English tsunami?

The connection to MichaelMas is right off the wall though. Christian holidays have little to do with the actual dates on which *anything* occurred. They were set for symbolic and rhetorical reasons, ie to include the ancient holidays of Europe within the calendar of the Catholic church.

  2. Yeah. The article was fine until it went Full Metal Stupid with the Book of Revelations stuff. Reminds me of reading Velikovsky, von Daniken and Frank Edwards back in the 60s when I was young, gullible and stupid.

And another explanation for an Atlantic event would be something happening in the Canary Islands, where supposedly the next big wave is due someday.

  3. It seems to me that if a comet hit the North Atlantic and threw up enough debris to rain down on New York, the Eurpeans wouldn’t just mention a wave, but would’ve gone nuts recording the horrible details of the end-of-days sky effects where God cranked his wrath to eleven.

They did, but at the time attributed it to eight years of Bush and Republican obstructionism.
