The Covington “Scandal”

[Mid-afternoon update]

[Tuesday-morning update]

Mark Steyn: The drumbeat of the mob.

[Update a few minutes later]

Robby Soave has viewed all of the video, and discovered who the real (ignorant) racist is:

The Native American man says, “Go back to Europe where you came from. This is not your land, you have been here two, three generations compared to us. We’ve been here a million fucking years.” The MAGA teen responds, “That’s not true. Let’s go all the way back to Africa,” and proceeds to tell the story of the land bridge that once connected Asia to North America, which allowed humans to settle these lands some thousands of years ago. (His opponent counters that this a “bullshit theory.”)

Keep in mind, the teen saying that all human beings originally came from Africa is a member of the group of young people initially described by countless pundits as obviously, undeniably racist.

Leftists have to have had their sense of irony excised at birth.

[Wednesday-morning update]

The 48-hour rule. Maybe it should be 72.

[Bumped]

[Update a while later]

What’s happening to those kids is vile.

It is. I was just listening to Glenn Beck on the way back dropping Patricia off at the bus stop. He was playing the audio of the horrific things that the “black Israelites” (or whatever the hell those monsters are) were saying about killing white people and raping women and making them their concubines, that no one in the media seems to think is a big deal. He made the point that Social Justice Warriors don’t give a damn about justice. They’re Social Vengeance Warriors.

[Update a while later]

Lawyer for Covington Catholic gives the media a 48-hour ultimatum.

And “Dear Covington boys: Everyone failed you.” Well, not everyone, but most.

Plus, Ross Douthat debates Ross Douthat.

  1. I watched 4+ hours of video from this event and it certainly didn’t play out like the DNC media is portraying it. It is disgraceful how major media companies didn’t report on the racist and homophobic slurs that the Black Hebrew Israelite were hurling at these kids and how the kids responded. But how could they? A bunch of young white Christian men saying gays are people too and who cares if someone is gay wouldn’t fit the narrative.

These kids actually stood up for things the left claims to care about. Had a group with different ethnicity or perceived political affiliation done this, they would be hailed as heroes.

The stunning thing is that even after having claimed to watched the full video, many Democrats were still claiming the kids were racists and went after the drum banging activist. Peacefully standing with a smile was deemed a racist assault. Wearing a MAGA hat viewed as proof of racism and justification for anything the mob wanted to do to the boys, their families, and innocent uninvolved people.

The calls for violence, social and economic persecution didn’t just come from randos but from scores of blue check marks and some of the most powerful people in the Democrat party. Not a single one will be subject to the rules that Republicans are forced to operate under by the DNC’s fascist technocracy.

This happens far too often and the damage is done, no apologies will help. Casuals only get the first story not the corrections. There is a pattern of “journalists” working with the DNC and activist groups to create and spread carefully constructed deceits. People on the right need to get hip to it instead of always getting suckered. Don’t forget the lesson of Gell Mann.

    1. The stunning thing is that even after having claimed to watched the full video, many Democrats were still claiming the kids were racists and went after the drum banging activist.

Kirsten Gillibrand had to be told live on air, after ranting about Trump and Cohen, that the SCO had debunked her rant before she even made it. She’s started an exploratory committee for her party’s 2020 Presidential nomination. Let’s just say, I no longer find that stuff stunning.

    2. [ADDENDUM: Some people on the left have been deleting their most rabid tweets, apparently. I would bet a large sum of money that this is because they are afraid of lawsuits. These boys were not public figures, so Sullivan would not apply even for the newspeople.]

At least the threat of legal action has some effect where common sense did not.

    3. wodun, thanks for watching the whole video so don’t have to. Last night on NBC news the “talking head” they had on to discuss the incident was some Ameridian activist who said that “clearly” the kid with the MAGA hat had done something wrong and was now doing damage control. Did you see anything remotely “clear” about his alleged wrong-doing?

      1. There were several different videos from different people. The one from the black Hebrew Israelites was the 2 hour one and was filled with profanity and racist slurs being directed at the kids and other people from the Democrat march by the black Israelites. You can watch a few minutes to get the gist and then skip ahead to about 1:12 and see the Democrat activists approach the kids.

There was a group of about 10. They have several different people shooting video and one guy taking stills. One of the videographers even deployed lighting. It’s obvious they were not trying to separate the two groups to bring peace because the Democrats didn’t occupy a space in the middle or take any sort of calming actions. They waded into the group of kids, who parted before them. The old dude got in the face of one kid and banged his drum. Then that kid left and the old dude targeted the kid in the gray coat everyone is hating on.

When the activists badgered their way into the crowd, the kids danced to the beat of his drum and tried singing along with his nonsensical “peace blessing”. The long video showed the perspective from outside the crowd and a lot of the kids were ignoring what was going on and just goofing off. It also showed the old dude wasn’t surrounded or being blocked from going anywhere.

He walked right into the crowd and banged his drum in kid’s faces because that is where he wanted to be. He wasn’t trying to get through but rather trying to get close to kids. If a kid backed up, the old dude advanced into the space and sought another target to beat his drum in front of.

The only thing that could possibly be considered offensive was when a few of the kids did the Atlanta Braves chop/chant for a couple seconds. There was also lots of jumping up and down waving an arm around that was not a chop. But different story for the Democrats. The black Israelites said heaps of racist stuff and one of the other Native American activists said racist comments to the kids but not nearly as bad as the black Israelites. That was so obscene I can’t believe the media defended them.

It was so obscene I can’t believe that wasn’t the story the media chose to cover.

And the kids stood up for gay people and expressed views about how everyone came from somewhere and we all came from Africa and are closely related so these racial differences don’t much matter. That didn’t go over very well with one of the Native American guys.

          1. By the way, McMegan is a sorry excuse for a columnist and I regret having read any of her work.

        1. Remember from l’Affaire Zimmerman about everything he did wrong and the moral obligation to retreat at the first inkling of trouble?

Don’t you know, the students are at fault for sticking around to observe the confrontation between the Bible group and the American Indian group — they should have beat tracks away from that place rather than stand around to observe Participatory Democracy in America’s Public Square, let alone become the third group to engage, smiling at the absurdities of the insult thrown between the two groups and then at themselves, defending gay rights and racial equality, and also dancing to Mr. Philips’ drum beat.

And as for the moral duty to shirk from any public disturbance, what does their bishop have to say about busing children to Washington DC to participate in a political protest march/rally on the most controversial subject of our age?

I suppose the students wearing MAGA hats on the Mall broke protocol regarding non-partisanship of the Right-to-Life event? While we are being non-partisan, how about calling for the resignation of the Supreme Court members nominated by this illegitimate president?

  2. From the annals of leftist brainlessness, volume 2-billion-whatever: Laura Wagner, Don’t Doubt What You Saw With Your Own Eyes

Right-wing trolls not only immediately proposed that the visibly aggressive teens, who were draped in the symbols of white nationalism and misogyny, were in fact the aggressed upon, but began a campaign of brutal online harassment against anyone—especially journalists and especially female journalists—who accurately described what they had seen, or reacted to it on the terms it deserved.

“I pushed this ice pick into my ear until it hurt, but then when I pushed it in further it hurt even more. I can’t figure it out.”

  3. From Reason, If You Still Think Nick Sandmann’s Smile Is Proof of Racism, You’re Seeing What You Want to See

One of Phillips’ associates, another Native American man, is standing near Sandmann, and enters an argument with a different MAGA-hat-wearing teenager (start watching at 6:55).

But the next moment is what really matters: Sandmann takes notice of the argument and quietly signals to the other teenager. It’s very quick and easy to miss: He makes a cut it out gesture.

That’s just one moment from the video footage. There are others. There’s the moment when the Black Hebrew Israelites, a black nationalist cult, tells one of the few black teens that his friends are going to kill him and steal his organs, and a young white man turns to his classmate, touches him affectionately, and says, “But we love you!” There’s the moment when the black nationalists declare that “your president is a homosexual” and a high school kid responds, “Who cares?” There’s the moment when some of the teens begin to suspect that Phillips has not waded into their midst with the best of intentions (he would later assert to media reporters that the teens were “beasts” and the cult members “their prey,” a false and possibly willful misreading of the situation) and one shouts, “I’m so confused.”

I think some of the instigators saw “High School Kids” and thought “easy marks.” And realized later that they had chosen poorly.

    1. They were easy marks, they just didn’t fit the racist stereotype that Democrats inculcate in the party. This is why the actual behavior didn’t matter and no course of action these kids took would have spared them the controversy.

The strategy was to create the controversy. It literally didn’t matter what the kids did or didn’t do. All the Democrat activists needed were some pictures and videos of white kids with MAGA hats in close proximity to the old dude. All that was required to get those shots was for the Democrat activists to invade children’s personal spaces while the camera crews documented it.

Tweet it out with a caption playing to Democrat’s racist views and its a viral story.

What they didn’t count on was someone else recording the event and someone else downloading it before the Democrats black Israelites took it down.

It is the same trick the Democrats use all the time when it comes to charges of racism. A person’s behavior doesn’t matter and any changes they make to their behavior doesn’t matter because the point is to make charges of racism. There is nothing that can be done get them not to call you a racist.

  4. Sounds like the reaction from bat-guano insane people (aka the left) for whom speech is violence, and violence is speech.

  5. (h/t to America)

    Ain’t it sunny outside
All the high school kids abounded
    Bus not yet curbside
Let’s go stand and wait for it

    Funny, I was there
    And you were nowhere near
What went down was not what you did hear

Cause I understand you bought the story from the man
Who faced down the kid called the Sandmann
He told the lie that caught the media eye
And brought a wave of misunderstaindin’

Ain’t the hours gone by fast
    Other video was witnessed
    Will the press now ask
    Why his tale was inconsistent?

    Funny, I was there
    And you weren’t nowhere near
What went down was not what you did hear

Cause I understand you bought the story from the man
Who faced down the kid called the Sandmann
He told the lie that caught the media eye
And brought a wave of misunderstaindin’

    1. You do know that the DNC and Hillary campaign trained protesters to instigate fights at Trump events and capture it on film so that it could be used just the way you are using it right? The people the Democrats hired got in trouble when Project Veritas ran a sting on them while planning a terrorist attack on a Republican event.

Similar to how the Democrat activist tried to set up these innocent kids over the weekend.

There would be no political violence if the Democrats did not instigate it with their militant activists. Every act of violence can be traced directly to Democrats or to their victims fighting back. Charlottesville is the best example of this.

  6. The media keeps doubling down. The kid did an interview with NBC where they perpetuated the attacks and then twisted his words to imply guilt.

Did anyone see coverage of the Democrat activists trying to storm a church during services? If this happened to any other religion, it would be a hate crime.

Our media, and people like Vladislaw, keep doubling down on the new Jim Crow rules and the racist stereotypes they have for people. Thank goodness we still have the ability counter these slurs with our own speech. But for how much longer? Democrats are doing everything they can to take away the right to speak.
