@Supersonic_Red I’m starting to question if they (and Canada!) can even be trusted in Five Eyes any more.

[Early-afternoon update]
The Systems Are Holding. The Question Is for How Long. https://t.co/u2YVlStVSn

“If there is a broader security problem in Britain, we obviously need to know whether Fairford was an isolated vulnerability or an indication of something more systemic.”
It is systemic in that everyone lacks the proper defenses. Are our own bases and ports in the USA protected against a spiderweb like attack? No.
Is it a systemic problem with Britain? Yes. Their Navy has atrophied along with the rest of their military and governance.
The good news is that we are working on some systems. On the southern border, we have been shooting down cartel drones with directed energy weapons. We have 9 ships with directed energy weapons. More traditional anti aircraft weapons are being developed, EW capabilities expanded, multirole autonomous ships will be numerous, and anti drone weapons at the unit and soldier level. Oh, and we can turn Greenland into an airbase.
Other good news is the Europe is finally taking defense matters seriously instead of just talking about how mean Trump is. But will they move fast enough? Trump is moving with Muskian urgency.
The sea lanes are contested, which requires a vigorous presence to maintain and might require boots on the ground. The focus has been on Iran and their proxies but the area to watch is the side of the bab al mandab across from Yemen. Many countries have a shared interest, so hopefully many act on it.
