    One could make a similar statement about arsonists, which would be equally valid.

  3. My prediction is that they’ll continue going through the motions of building the high speed rail until federal funds run out and they can’t obtain more, then they’ll abandon it. My sympathies to people who will lose their property and businesses to this bureaucratic spending game.

    1. California has a history of partially building something to finish it later. It’s mind blowing to drive on an eight lane highway only to have it end in the desert hundreds of miles from anywhere as I remember doing as a kid. I suspect at least part of it will be operational some day (‘and we will have jet packs for going to school, not cars like in my day.’ [Stolen from some comedian])

      1. The Interstate highway system took 60 years to finish buildout, and the last legs cost as much
        as the original plan.
