  1. Forgot to add: Hillary is a good example of what Hayek was warning us about in the “Why the Worst Rise” chapter of THE ROAD TO SERFDOM.

Or as Christopher Hitchens put it, predicting that Hillary would be the next president after Obama: “I’ve feared it for a long time, and there’s something horrible and undefeatable about people who have no life except the worship of power. . . . people who don’t want the meeting to end, the people who just are unstoppable, who only have one focus, no humanity, no character, nothing but the worship of money and power. They win in the end. “

    1. Just finished the 2nd book of Robert Harris’s novelistic trilogy of the life of Cicero.

At one point, Cicero remarks to someone that the difference in ambition between Pompey & Caesar is that, “Pompey just wants to rule the world, Caesar [also] wants to remake it all in his own image.”

      1. They were so scared of an old man that they had to use what was it half a dozen people to kill him? Some upper moral fiber there.

  2. It like the TV series “Married With Children” where Al is going to have his “Archie Bunker moment” of appearing on TV, only Al has been left alone by the rest of the family, he is immobilized from the injuries sustained during his “star turn” with famous athletes forming the TV appearance he won in a contest, and Buck the Dog has stepped on the remote control to change the channel to ” . . . and now, without commercial interruptions, we present Steel Magnolias . . .”, which is Al’s all-time least-favorite movie.

Al pleads with the dog to change the channel, but the audience gets to hear Buck the Dog explaining that he rather wants to watch that movie, thinking wistfully in his mind’s voice, “Julia Roberts . . . so beautiful . . . so ill!”
