Great article on creative destruction, and why “progressives” and “conservatives” are mislabeled and misunderstood.
So how much creative destruction in the criminal justice system over recent decades? (maybe only America’s Most Wanted and Dog the Bounty Hunter on cable). Imagine entrepreneurial firms tasked with housing and employing convicted criminals who pay restitution to victims over 3, 5, or 10 year periods. Firms would also be eligible for significant bonuses for lower recidivism (and these bonuses could be packaged and sold as securities).
It is definitely broken. I will keep suggesting we empty the prisons (keep jails for short term lockup) and build liberty ships. We could even make it voluntary. Stay in prison or get out free by giving up citizenship and being deported (where does not matter.)
Of course, this would mean we should actually defend our borders.
We separate them from civilized society for good reason but prison is a bad solution.
