  1. Related: After 2 1/2 months, the followups to Madrid 1995: Was this the Tipping Point in the Corruption of Climate Science? are up; here and here. Fascinating stuff.

  2. Models show the greatest warming spike down the road still, decades hence.

Dude, your models still haven’t managed the deep ocean heat traps. You know, where all the missing heat is going. Don’t you think you ought to work that out first?

Seems to me it’s not the heat, it’s the temerity that’s our real problem

No, it’s not the heat, it’s the stupidity.

  3. Hot = global warming. Cold = global warming. Rain = global warming. Drought = global warming. Dead whales = global warming. Burning the breakfast toast = global warming.

It’s easy to be “right” when everything that happens reinforces your bias.

  4. Too bad about Achenbach. Funny guy. But, he’s a writer, not a scientist, and not equipped to separate fact from fiction.

Not only is there no discernible correlation between CO2 and temperature, evidenced most prominently by the divergence in the two readings in the last decade or so, but atmospheric CO2 concentration is not even being driven by humans. CO2 concentration is entirely determined by temperature, and not the other way around.

    1. Well, not “entirely”, but mostly, to the point that any other contribution is attenuated by carbon cycle feedback to the point of negligibility.

  5. “If the facts do not agree with the theory, so much the worse for the facts!” — Hegel

Well, this is disappointing. Joel Achenbach has fallen prey to the myth.

Not so ironically, it’s in the “Opinions” section.

  6. Funny how something happening just along the east coast suddenly translates to a global phenomena. I’ve thought people up north were a bit full of themselves but this just takes the cake. This makes me think of a twist on Ronald Reagan’s saying, “it’s just a recession when your neighbor loses their job but it’s a depression when you lose yours.” Except it would go: It’s just the weather when a heat wave hits some other part of the world but it’s global catastrophic climate change when a heat wave hits you.
