I thought the enviros complained that there were too many humans on the planet.
We SF fans resent the comparison.
Yes. Good science fiction at least has to have a plausible threat. A heat ray that takes a century to warm the planet by about a degree merits inclusion in the “Utterly Useless Villain Hall of Fame.”
