  1. Other than the possibility of creating new states out of NY and CA (and thus up to 8 more Senators), this wouldn’t actually change much, since the House is composed of Representatives from Electoral Districts, now permanently set at 435. Reapportionment is set to happen after the 2020 Census anyway. This would just make for a bigger flap. I guess the big impact on the Presidential election would be the shift of Electoral College votes.

    1. I fled California to Maryland in 2008. Then Maryland began it’s rapid transition to California East, so I fled to Virginia. In the last midterm, the Republican Party surrendered Virginia to the Democrats by not running any candidates in over half of the state legislative races. It’s nice to see that West Virginia would welcome us, but it makes more sense to make a stand, and actually oppose these anti-American zealots.

Mr. Kelly, you might want to clarify your position here. It sounds as though you want others to do what you yourself are unwilling to do. You’ve spent the last 12 years fleeing anti-American zealots but you despair that others are unwilling to make a stand?

It’s not about the effects on national politics, It’s about local control. It’s about urbanites in King County telling people in Walla Walla and Wenatchee how to run their lives, imposing solutions with a “one-size-fits-all” mentality, and their imposing their religious beliefs on non-believers.

What’s needed is a way to give those being imposed upon some way to control their own lives, and stop being treated as colonial possessions to be exploited and humiliated by distant imperialist masters. Breaking up large states, giving the urban areas control only of the urban areas, would be a step in the right direction.
