    1. Prius is pretty much mainstream. However, because of the heavy batteries the load factor for the tires on a Prius makes them expensive. You can get almost as good mileage on the much lighter all gas Corolla. Used to be within 10mpg or so. Plus nowadays there are hybrid versions of all sorts of vehicles, including roomy SUVs.

I have a neighbor who has a Tesla S. I don’t know if this is true, but he claims to have done the power calculations on his 220V charging system @home. Claims that if everyone on our common utility loop had Teslas being recharged overnight that the power demand on the loop (rural, single phase 1150V line) in terms of raw amperage would cause the line fuses to pop. Interesting speculation. I haven’t run the numbers myself to verify. But it is an interesting observation. Seems unlikely, since I assume many many people on our local loop have 220V water heaters, for example and of course *everyone* has a 220V well pump. Of course they all are not running at once either….

      1. It’s a complicated matter. In general terms, electricity consumption is lower late at night because most businesses are closed and most people are sleeping. There will still be a base level of consumption for air conditioning or heating, hot water heaters, etc. but that isn’t continuous in most cases. If a high percentage of consumers recharge electric cars at night, you’ll have high consumption for many hours a night. It might cause electric companies to change the ratio of base power production and peak demand production. The best choice would be to increase reliable and cost effective base power production (nuclear or closed cycle gas turbines).

  1. Have you seen all the people on twitter with a blue wave in their name?

There are two things everyone needs to watch that perfectly capture what we are seeing from the Democrats today. First, the movie
    The Wave, Second are the
    Yuri Bezmenov interviews and speeches.
