You say your laptop is non-functional. How did your experiment with a tablet and full-sized keyboard turn out?

      1. I *have* used a (wired) mouse with an Android tablet (Samsung Tab S2) and it worked, btw. Can’t remember if I mentioned that before.

  2. Did you ever see about getting a lightning-to-USB OTG adapter, so you could use a keyboard with your iPad?

    1. I got a bluetooth keyboard for it, which worked all right. The problem was that it wouldn’t talk to a bluetooth mouse (but my android phone would). Anyway, the iPad was hers, not mine, so that’s not a permanent solution, since I have zero intention of getting one (particularly since it is allergic to mice).

          1. At home, I plug my iPhone into an (hdmi) monitor then use the iPhone as the mouse pad. That, together with a bluetooth keyboard, works pretty well. I particularly like the shortcuts that are available with the keyboard, so that — in particular — Cmd-Z works as “undo” and you don’t need to pick up and shake the iPhone.

  3. Apple may be getting closer to an iDevice mouse. CarPlay in the Acura uses not a touchscreen but Acura’s cursor control to actuate the various items.
