  1. I hate these federal documents! Non-searchable pdf images of documents that look like a fifth generation fax! Acrobat Pro doesn’t make them searchable, either.

    What, in particular, do you oppose in the bill?

  2. Exactly. There are settlements in Alaska that depend on air freight for their existence. Perhaps the FAA should have jurisdiction over them as well…?

  3. There are good tactical reasons why we want those functions in Commerce, but there are two fundamental ones:

    1) Extraterritorial activities, at this time, aren’t in need of regulation, simply of permission — and Commerce isn’t a regulatory agency, while AST is, so the culture is wrong.

    2) The scope of activities we’re trying to enable — habitats, servicing, mining, fueling — is much broader than transportation. Of course you can’t get there without transportation (you can’t get anywhere without transportation), but these aren’t transportation activities.
