Alexandria O-C

The unserious face of an unserious moment:

Speaking to a friendly Trevor Noah, Ocasio-Cortez revealed that she does not know the difference between a one-year and a ten-year budget; confused the recent increase in defense spending with the entire annual cost of the military; implied that the population of the United States was around 800 million strong; and, having been asked to defend her coveted $15 minimum wage, launched into a rambling and inscrutable diatribe about “private equity” firms that would have been a touch too harsh as a parody on South Park. If anything, she was worse this time than she had been during her appearance on Firing Line a few days earlier, on which newly revamped show she demonstrated her obliviousness to the fact that the United States economy exploded during the 1990s, to the manner in which unemployment numbers are calculated, and to even the most obvious facets of the Israel–Palestine question about which she has assured her supporters she is so passionate.

“It’s really weird!”

It is, yes. Especially given that, before her two interviews aired, Ocasio-Cortez had taken to exhibiting that jealous penchant for credentialism that so stains the world’s wannabe socialists, and to boasting about her intellectual prowess. At the beginning of July, she tweeted with self-satisfaction — and a noticeably premature use of the word “other” — that she was “Wondering how many other House Democrats have a degree in Economics like I do?” Two days later, she upgraded that claim: “If you think the GOP is terrified of my politics now,” she threatened on Twitter, “just wait until they find out about public libraries.” Just wait, indeed! From a BA from BU to the embodiment of all human knowledge in just 48 hours! At this rate it can’t be long before she gives it all up and becomes an honorary Krassenstein Brother: “We are the way, the truth, and the light. Retweet if you love Love and hate Trump!”

And as Stephen Green notes: “Graduated fourth in her class at Boston University, which costs $72,618 annually to attend.”

She’s a poster child for the high-cost worthlessness of a modern college degree.

Are people really this stupid? Well, they’re certainly mal-educated.

Millennial socialism: Stupid, evil, or both?

The media rushes to protect Alexandria O-C from her own cluelessness.

  1. The good news: many politicians have been this stupid for decades, but the media filtered out the stupidity so they looked much smarter than they really were. Now the Internet gives them a direct link to the public with no filtering, where the stupidity is obvious.

The bad news: many politicians have been this stupid for decades, and the results of that stupidity would take decades to fix politically.

    1. I am offended by calling anyone stupid and I think you all should knock it of.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is bright — Faculty Senate bright.

Her views and ideas mirror that of a top-rate university education. Comparing her to student-government participants is unfair — to those students. They rise to level of a Faculty Senate.

    2. Now the Internet gives them a direct link to the public with no filtering,

This is why the left wants to censor and control the internet. In places like the UK, we see people arrested for making videos critical of government and in the USA, we see the media support the Democrat’s militant activists using violence against citizen journalists covering Democrat events.

  2. As stupid as she is; I think some our wrong to under estimate the support for her stupidity. They called Trump a populist, but she comes in offering freebies that some think are possibilities.

    1. Never underestimate the attraction of “free stuff” for a lot of people, nor underestimate just how much all of that “free stuff” will end up costing.

  3. Rand, you are thinking about this all wrong. You see most people thing that a representitive needs to know the cost and effect of what they will be voting on. But in reality, she is just going to vote for whatever the democrats want her to vote for. So she really doesn’t need to know too much about anything. This is doubly true because the democrats haven’t had an original thought or solution to any problems in over 75 years.

  4. She would be vastly more entertaining if I thought her ignorance was exceptional in our politicians, both sides. She just hasn’t had enough practice BS’ing. Once elected, she’ll fit right in.

    1. Its a job normal people don’t want to do and requires a skill set to get elected that has nothing to do with the job requirements.

  5. She worries me because she’s only the tip of the iceberg. There are a lot more where she came from. The universities are churning them out by the millions.

Note especially the guy in the backwards cap. His smugness is directly proportional to his ignorance. That should scare the hell out of anybody.
