  1. Suggested headlines, were Guardian editors not so pretentiously serious:

    Snore of the Worlds
Cube Is Too Hip Hop To Be Square
    Mars In Retrograde
Straight Outta Compton Gamma Ray Observatory

  2. I think it was a Brit mob who did a modern version of War of the Worlds a few years ago. Very slow moving and followed a bunch of people who mostly acted like idiots. They were trying to go from France to London after the aliens arrived with an EMP attack that fried electronics and killed people unless well underground. Loved the bit where they arrive at an airfield full of light aircraft which would solve their problem as the ignitions are magnetos but nobody could fly.
Watched the first season and lost interest.

  3. When I saw reviewers were referring to this version as “unwatchable”, I said “Challenge accepted”.

The parts where the tripods first started attacking and our world began to fall apart were genuinely suspenseful. But the plot twist that the aliens just love to “eat data” was so dumb that there was just no recovery from it.

  4. Not even going to try, which is a pity, War of the Worlds is my all time favorite novel.

    1. Thanks. I never knew this existed. 56 seconds in I started to imagine dancing tripods and could not stop smiling, which does not seem the proper attitude for this story. I will try again on an evening when I don’t have a glass of wine in my hand.
