  1. Alpert’s thesis is unassailable. But the rot didn’t start recently. It well-predates the modern ascension of Woke-ism. The psychiatric profession has been overwhelmingly hard left since its inception.

I recall over 40 years ago a psychiatrist saying in a debate that an aversion to paying taxes was a mental dysfunction. The Soviets routinely confined political dissidents to mental institutions. A lot of current leftists would like to do the same – if it wasn’t for the fact that their ideological predecessors already closed all of the mental institutions. Nevertheless, the “literature” of the field, if I may so dignify it, is replete with screeds attempting to pathologize various aspects of conservative belief or lifestyle – particularly anything religious.

Modern “therapy” appears to be mostly cultism that has arranged for its own support via government and private insurance. That is virtually identical to the way public employee unions and the Democratic Party have also arranged – at least until the advent of DOGE – to fund their own nefarious activities via organized theft of taxpayer-supplied funds.

The Left is much-enamored of making calls to defund this or that – ICE, the police, the military, etc. What really needs defunding is the Left itself. A decent start on this has recently been made, but it has a long way to go.
