  1. if autonomous vehicles save the lives of thousands of motorists but cause fatalities of cyclists and pedestrians to increase, the public’s trust in the technology is likely to erode.

    Well, no one wants to see people hit while crossing the street. Pedestrian accidents are usually avoidable. Cyclists tend to ride in a manner that isn’t safe.

    1. As a cyclist I have to agree. Far too often people on bicycles, wearing nothing more than spandex, act as if they are in some magical buffer zone that protects them from all consequences.
