  1. The Minority Report has found Musk guilty of Pre-Crime. He must be stopped for the good of the State. The officers will arrive to impose the nachträgliche Sicherungsverwahrung yesterday.

“Tutto nello Stato, niente al di fuori dello Stato, nulla contro lo Stato.”

  2. From the sites “about” page:

“Jacobin is a leading voice of the American left, offering socialist perspectives on politics, economics, and culture.”

    Duh.

  3. Article summary: “The world’s richest man now controls nearly 30 percent of earth’s satellites: What could possibly go wrong?”

Correct take: “27% of the satellites orbiting the Earth are StarLink satellites.”

It’s not like Musk has bought controlling interest in GOES, GLONASS, and other constellations; he’s putting his own up there, and they all pretty much do the same fairly benign thing. The biggest risks are a Kessler event or UFO reports.

    1. Yeah, “he launched a lot of very useful satellites” is not a danger.

      He ain’t stopping anyone else.

(StarLink is so very low orbit that it’s self-clearing – they only last five years, and fall into the atmosphere, leaving no debris in orbit.)

      1. >“he launched a lot of very useful satellites” is not a danger.

It is to a Socialist state. Starlink gives you direct internet access anywhere, bypassing national firewalls and internal surveillance alike. Imagine smuggling a few hundreds Starlink terminals into China…

    1. Well, the Apollo program proved that our big Soviet-style space program was better than the Soviets’ big Soviet-style space program, so there’s that.

  4. Will Musk’s Starlink sats just be another cable company for internet service, or will it produce an alternative less controlled internet? If it’s the latter, that’s what’s scaring them.

    1. “or will it produce an alternative less controlled internet? If it’s the latter, that’s what’s scaring them.”

Not sure how it would do that. Anyone who wanted to accomplish that can do it now.

  5. If I were a deranged space baron, would I like him or would I see him as unwelcome competition?
