Recall elections should be held during the months when colleges are on semester breaks. IMHO.
Sounds a bit like the original Brexit vote. Control over timing was confused with control over outcome.

Democrats have an excellent ground game when it comes to gathering ballots. The “people” don’t have to be motivated. Activists don’t even have to be motivated. All they need are the funds/favors to pay people to vote and to collect ballots.
IIRC, Republicans in certain districts put up a good fight ballot harvesting too in the last cycle after they got caught flat footed when the rule went into effect and lost some seats. Hopefully, they continue the work and keep everything on the up and up because there will be no blows held when it comes to election scrutiny* and Democrats are in charge. Looking at how they have run the recall so far, you can even expect Democrats to invent misconduct to punish through process and to siphon off resources their competitors could use for the election.

How do you compete with someone offering “Free Stuff! More Free Stuff!” When you have rootless people outvoting the “property holders” the outlook looks dimmer and dimmer.
