I don’t think Stewart appreciates just how much responsibility he bears for the parlous state his former party is in these days. Or even if he recognises that it’s in one. His candidacy for the leadership and the support it garnered, despite being characteristically unuccessful – even they wouldn’t put up with him – was the final straw for many a former Tory.
