No, this is not the dawn of it.
We did dodge one, though.

This is the most visionary president on space policy since Ronald Reagan.
[Late-afternoon update]
Thoughts on the upcoming celebrations. I hadn’t thought about the parallels between Trump and King.
[Inauguration Day update]
Well, he didn’t pull any punches. Well, actually he did in the speech, but not afterward, because he could have talked about January 6th, but didn’t. He probably didn’t know about the pardons because Biden did them just before, or he might have.
I wonder if a pardon that doesn’t say what the pardon is for is valid? In any event, pardoning them won’t prevent an investigation into what really happened, and the truth coming out. And I doubt that the pardons will apply to perjury, and pardoned people who are subpoenaed won’t be able to plead the 5th, because they won’t be in legal jeopardy.

An open letter to the owner of the LA Times.
I just asked Grok how we could get back to the Moon if SLS/Orion were canceled. Its response:
If the Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion spacecraft were to be canceled, alternative architectures for getting Americans back to the Moon would need to leverage existing or soon-to-be-developed technology from both NASA and the private sector. Here are several conceptual architectures:
1. SpaceX Starship Architecture:
2. NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) with Crew:
3. Modular Approach with Gateway or Lunar Orbit:
4. International Collaboration:
5. Hybrid Approach:
Each of these architectures would need to consider factors like cost, safety, timeline, and the strategic goals of returning to the Moon, such as establishing a sustainable presence, scientific research, or setting the stage for Mars missions. The choice would also depend on the evolution of technology and the political and budgetary environment at the time of decision-making.

[Update a few minutes later]
A lot of us knew this during the mayoral compaign, but apparently not enough, or the Hollywood types found it a(nother) reason to vote for her: Karen Bass is a lifelong communist (and particularly Castro) sympathizer.

“I know who caused the fires in Pacific Palisades.“
LA is guaranteed to be a disaster with the people who run it continuing to do so.
[Evening update]
The California fires are a horrifying consequence of Democratic misrule.
Ya think?
I’ve been buying most of my clothes there.
A blistering critique from Mike Shellenberger:
For more than a decade, the media, Democrats, and Hollywood have told us that Western civilization in general and the United States in particular are white supremacist, genocidal, and unsustainable. The founding of America occurred not in 1776 but rather in 1619 with the… pic.twitter.com/jD4f0Mq3oo

Is it really a threat to the future of humanity?
Not in my opinion.
