The less stereotyped answer is that a nomadic society can’t support prisons, so, a long list of capital crimes with non capital punishments incurring no overhead or maintenance of the criminal. The author should now do English punishments through the 19th century and explain how that uniquely upholds the Christian ethos.
It is a prolonged death sentence. They chop off the right hand, which Arabs use to eat, usually from public troughs. The left hand is used to wipe their ass after a bowel movement, and no one will allow anyone to eat from a public trough with their left hand.
When I was exploring Saudi investment, decades ago, my contracts manager told me of his experience. He had been with a company doing business in Saudi Arabia, and was witness to one of the chop sessions of a thief. The company he worked for tried to provide medical heal for the victim, setting up a station with hot oil to cauterize the wound, bandages, and antibiotics. After the deed was done, the medics turned to their station to help the victim, only to find that everything had been stolen.
I never went for any Saudi investment.
