Never mind 100 plus years of empirical evidence showing that such diets are utter failures.
Counting carbs works for me.
Humans need essential fatty acids and proteins. There are no essential carbs: Everything that we can get from carbs, the body can produce from fats and proteins through the process of gluconeogenesis.
We enjoy eating carbs because they are usually sweet tasting, are inexpensive to buy because they are easy to grow, transport and store.
But we don’t need to eat them.
Something tells me that we could replicate the action of Ozembic and related drugs by artful dietary choices, drugs that I heard works on the rate of absorption of food in the GI tract, creating a sense of satiety without eating more. Foods with high fiber content may help in this regard. And maybe this doesn’t require going carb free, just watching in what combination foods are eaten.
Yeah, except that doesn’t work any better than telling heroin addicts to just choose better drugs and dosages.
And arguing about it from any position such as that, including an appeal to will power, is folly. IT SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK.
The best time exercise self control is at the point of purchase.
Scott Adams said there is now such thing as will power, just making a decision.
Telling heroin addicts to choose better drugs and dosages?
Isn’t that what methadone treatment is–has this lost favor, or do you think there is a better path?
One thing you can add to your diet to control cravings is nicotine
Exactly.
Most restaurants offer “hearth healthy”, “low calorie”, “high protein” etc options on their menus but I find it odd that very few offer “Low Carb” options. Especially puzzling given how popular low carb diets are, seems like that could be a money maker for any restaurant that offered such.
Carbs are flavorful and inexpensive to produce. Restaurants are there to put rears in the seats and get the cattle in and out.
…and get the cattle in and out.
If that restaurant is a steakhouse, there’s two ways to look at that…
“Low Carb” is usually labeled “Paleo”, such as burgers with lettuce wrap instead of buns or just meat and vegetables.
” In fact, research shows that people tend to regain about 50 – 70 percent of the weight they lose after dieting.”
That is because diet is viewed as temporary rather than making a systematic change to what and how you eat.
Calorie counting does work, along with persistent dietary changes and exercise. Carbs also aren’t bad, neither is fat. Too much of either isn’t great.
What the article doesn’t say is that fat cells don’t die. When you lose weight, you don’t lose fat. Your fat cells just shrink. However, when you eat a lot, not only do your fat cells expand, new ones are created. It is easy to puff them up again.
Fat cells only die off after something like starvation.
