The Cruelty Of The Marketplace

This is one tough recession. Hookers’ rates are down in Amsterdam:

‘Some of the girls are now doing it for 30 euros (S$60). My price is still 50 euros, but the men are playing us off against each other. Some want to pay only 20 euros,’ she told AFP.

Guess they need a bail out. Of course, it’s particularly tough in Europe, where there’s so much competition from women who are giving it away…

  1. Men don’t pay prostitutes to have sex with them. Men pay prostitutes so they leave afterwards.

  2. “Men pay prostitutes so they leave afterwards.”

What’s the hurry? ‘Afterplay’ is a good thing.

One might think that it’s in a hooker’s best interest to hurry each customer along, so as to find/service the next one and at the level of streetwalkers that’s likely true, as they charge less, so volume is more important.

But these ladies are the equivalent of a sit-down restaurant, not the hot-dog stand on the corner. Service and overall experience matters, not just finding the big ‘O.’ (Google “GFE” to see the concept at still higher levels of prostitution) It’s worth their while to spend some time with the customer (not all of whom are in a hurry, either) afterward. This encourages repeat business, which is that much more important in slower times…

…And this has meaning even outside of prostitution. Not only do women hate it when men finish, turn over and doze, but being treated well afterward is appreciated by more guys than you might think.

  3. The fine distinctions among the various subcategories of this profession are not uppermost in my mind.

Now, if they were unionized by the UAW, I can imagine the work-category classifications would get even more elaborate.

  4. And I was referring to the fact that many men like sex workers because it’s no frills, no hassle sex. Women who give away sex are not competition to sex workers but maybe some people aren’t sophisticated enough to understand that.

  5. And I was referring to the fact that many men like sex workers because it’s no frills, no hassle sex.

Then you should have said that, instead of quoting a Hollywood nitwit.

  6. “And I was referring to the fact that many men like sex workers because it’s no frills, no hassle sex.”

I’m guessing you’re a woman. That blanket statement has two big stereotypes in it.

  7. Are you claiming Charlie Sheen is a woman?

He was asked why does he pay prostitutes, when so many “free” women are available to him. Sheen’s response meant he wants to have sex without emotional involvement, and without all subsequent complications. He never claimed all (or even most) men who visit prostitutes feel same way. But there is no reason to doubt that is true for him.

  8. “And I was referring to the fact that many men like sex workers because it’s no frills, no hassle sex.”

Understood. Thus the ‘hot dog stand’ analogy. The ‘storefront’ girls seem to me to be somewhat more ‘frills’ than that.

  9. Then you should have said that, instead of quoting a Hollywood nitwit.

The meaning was quite clear and several people here understood it.

On the other hand: Charlie Sheen was referring to call girls.

    And they _aren’t_ prostitutes?

  10. And they _aren’t_ prostitutes?

The prostitutes under discussion were not call girls, and hence the Sheen quote has no relevance.

Do I need to draw you a Venn diagram?

  11. “Do I need to draw you a Venn diagram?”

Why not ask Charlie Sheen if he thinks his feelings apply to street hookers, incall sex workers as well as out call girls?

  12. Why not ask Charlie Sheen

Because unlike morons like you, I don’t give a damn what Charlie Sheen thinks about anything, let alone hookers.

  13. If you want to discuss hookers, you should consult with the experts.
    Sheen, DeLay, and jeff gannon

  14. “Are you claiming Charlie Sheen is a woman?”

No. Are your comprehension skills poor? Yes. I was referring to “Jack”.

  15. I won’t draw one, but I’ll describe it for you. Imagine a big circle, labeled “prostitutes.” Now place a smaller one entirely within it, labeled “call girls.” Imagine another smaller circle entirely inside the big one and not overlapping the other smaller one, labeled “window girls.” Sheen was referring to call girls. This post was about window girls.
