Start The Countdown

I’m waiting for the first leftist and ACORN defender to accuse the people who did the secret video of the prostitution counseling of being racist.

I’m also sure that ACORN defenders will assure us that these people (who were fired tonight) are just a couple bad apples and, despite the old aphorism, didn’t spoil the whole bunch. That the two young (true) journalists were just lucky, and hit the jackpot, finding the only rotten non-golden delicious in the organization in their first and only attempt.

Right.

[Friday evening update, about 22 hours later]

Can I call them, or can I call them? It only took a day or so.

  1. Rand, was this first attempt? I thought I read somewhere that it wasn’t, but I’m not certain. Either way, it certainly didn’t look like a difficult of a feat to pull off. Can’t wait to see the inspired imitators on a YouTube video near you.

Obligatory: Obviously the ACORN didn’t fall to far from the tree.

  2. How dare you Rand, Clearly the poor acorn workers were just trying to help out the struggling professional with her “art” and her trying to help fellow “artist” as “apprentices”, clearly being in USA would be be better than El Salvador. They got fired for giving out a helping hand even offered to help do her taxes at 1/3rd there nominal rate. Money don’t grow on tree and everyone has bills to pay.
Prostitution and tax fraud is a victimless crime don’t ya know. (/snark off)

Unfortunately that pretty much what went through those two workers heads. And some of the society even the newer generation of woman libbers are supportive of prostitutes, know in college met several girls of such stripes, they also seem to watch a lot of lifetime. Don’t know if that has some sort of connection or not.
This also really doesn’t lead to acorn being bad. There will always be occasions of corruption/bad apples in such large organizations. Let alone acorn which probably dosen’t pay well, or have highest standards for hiring workers, compared to for example.

Short of the underage and human trafficking, the prostitution to most people is going to be equivalent to smoking weed. Unfortunately this would gain more traction if they were posing as hard drug dealers looking for a new crack house, or they uncovered political shenanigans, had a way to link it to higher acorn structure/culture

  3. Can y’all throw me some links? The only other place I found that mentioned it was Jerry Pournelle’s site.

According to Pournelle, there was even a Republican involved among the Democrats.

  4. “There will always be occasions of corruption/bad apples in such large organizations.”

A solid argument for refusing to have such large organizations.

When you’re a tiny company, every hire is crucial. Small and medium, they still fairly important – any if you screw up you’re still small enough to get mauled in a lawsuit.

  5. Short of the underage and human trafficking, the prostitution to most people is going to be equivalent to smoking weed.

Shouldn’t this be a wake-up call as to who really has their feet on the throats of the minorities and poor in this country? Leftists claim to have moral superiority because they want to help lift the poor and downtrodden out of the gutter while their policies only serve to ensure as many people as possible stay mired in the gutter.

As David Horowitz recently said in an interview: “The only way to defeat the left — and I have failed in twenty years of arguing this to persuade conservatives — is to turn the table around and attack their moral self-image. Leftists are in fact the enemies and oppressors of women, children, gays, minorities and the poor, and conservatives should never confront them without reminding them of this fact.”

  6. “… the two young (true) journalists were just lucky, and hit the jackpot, finding the only rotten non-golden delicious in the organization in their first and only attempt.”

I have heard another video, showing much the same stuff done by the same two in Wash DC, has been posted early morning 11Sep01.

  7. Jim is currently plugged into the hive getting instuctions on how to portray this investgative journalism as racist and only reinforces his belief the Klan is pro-liberty.

  8. Does anyone know whether two videos is all? Maybe they’re going to release one daily for awhile?

  9. Do you think that prostitution is morally wrong?

In some vague sense, yes. The problem is that it’s hard to differentiate it (in the extreme) from a woman marrying for money. There’s a gradation that makes it difficult to distinguish cases.

Though I’m not sure how your questions are relevant to this post, which is about legality, rather than morality…

Do you think individuals have a positive duty to support the state in preventing it?

I’d be much less concerned about this if it were merely about prostitution (though I think that it exemplifies ACORN’s complete indifference to the law, which concerns me when it comes to voting registration, and census issues, among other things…).

The issue to me is enabling the importation of underage girls to put them in a whorehouse. The ACORN people seemed to have no prob whatsoever with that. They were willing, and even eager, to facilitate it.

  10. Will, the question isn’t if prostitution is wrong – the question is if pimping is wrong. Even if one accepts the possibility that prostitution is not morally wrong, the popular depiction of a pimp is to a slavedriver in the same way a prostitute is to a line worker. And that makes a pimp, in every possible way, morally wrong.

  11. ::facepalm:: And I just realized that I missed the most reprehensible part of the argument. The first reply I gave isn’t even getting into the whole underaged prostitute issue. That’s going to involve human trafficking, which is also on the level of slavery.

  12. Even if one accepts the possibility that prostitution is not morally wrong, the popular depiction of a pimp is to a slavedriver in the same way a prostitute is to a line worker. And that makes a pimp, in every possible way, morally wrong.

Except that the popular depiction is a caricature. My view is that neither prostitution or pimping is inherently wrong. Prostitutes provide sex and companionship for money. Pimps provide security and logistics for prostitutes in exchange for a cut of the revenue. Making the business legal and regulated would clean up most of the problems. I doubt Nevada has trouble with slave driving pimps or underage prostitute smuggling rings.

  13. Do you think that prostitution is morally wrong?

Do you think that fornication is morally wrong?

If it’s legal and moral to perform an act for free, why should it be illegal and immoral the same people to perform the same act for money?

It doesn’t bother me very much that some ACORN people might want to support a prostitute or even a pimp, although aiding and abetting lawbreakers is illegal. What I condemn is their willingness to encourage and abet fraud, tax evasion, and slavery.

  14. Where’s Jim when you need him?

Taking his cue from the media and putting this in the “ignore” basket instead of the “spin” basket.
