We’re All Neocons Now

I haven’t had time to dissect the speech in real time, but I think that’s the headline, even with the attempted slams at the Bush administration. I could say a lot of other things, like his continuing speech quirk about Pahkeestahn, versus Afganistan (as in Laurel). The teleprompter apparently doesn’t do phonics…

But I think that’s the headline.

He seems to have finally learned that it’s a lot harder to govern than campaign.

[Update a few minute later]

Links to more thoughts. I’m sure I’ll have some as well, after seeing the transcript. That’s always the best way to evaluate The One’s speeches. And politicians’ in general, of course…

  1. A blind squirrel finds an acorn now and then. We’ll see if he knows how to crack the shell. Chrissy Matthews should be fired for such an insult to the cadets, some of whom may not be alive to vote next year. I see GE is finally trying to unload NBC Universal.

  2. When are we getting the next entry on Muhammad Idrees Ahmad? I’m interested to know what more is to come. Apparently he thinks that Mother Teresa, Jimmy Carter and Neil Armstrong were also neo-cons.

I’m sure that Idrees is looking forward to seeing the entry as well. It will also give him something to do in that he will have to update his entry on Spittoon again.

  3. At least neocons, while retaining their New Deal Democrat loyalty to the Welfare State, have a certain skepticism about the Cult of State. Obama’s not only in the Cult; he’s a high priest.

  4. I didn’t watch the speech, but what I’ve read of the transcript is about as much as I hoped from Obama.

What Matthews said was shameful, and he should be fired. It’s not just bad that he referred to the US Military Academy as an “enemy camp” on any given day, but it was in context to a speech being given on how the military. Some of those cadets in the room will be prosecuting a war with a real enemy of the United States. It’s not those cadets who declared war on Afghanistan and commanded more troops to go there, it was the CinC, and his predecessor and ilk, that went to their school to use them as a backdrop. If you don’t like war, don’t take it out on the kids willing to protect you.

  5. I found the word frequency interesting..,.
    “‘I’ – 45, ‘Afghanistan’ – 39, ‘Victory’ – 0.”

  6. Someone should tell Christy May May that he’s not making Obama’s presidency “work” and thus not doing his self-proclaimed “job.”
