Low Bar

Let me just say, for one, that I have absolutely no less confidence in Janet Napolitano after her performance today than I did the day she was nominated, or confirmed. In fact, I’ll go farther and say exactly the same thing about the president. Unlike some, my respect for his ability, experience, integrity or viewpoints has not diminished in any way since his election. Neither of them has disappointed me in any way whatsoever.

  1. The system failed – we elected people that consider these dimwits more competent than the balloon boy’s folks.

  2. I learned an odd little fact Sunday from an architect who is working on the project. DHS is renovating some old buildings and constructing new ones for a large facility in the DC area. Previously the site was the home of St. Elizabeth’s. What was St. Elizabeth’s? It was a hospital for the mentally ill.

    Let the jokes begin!

  3. I like how the left howled when Bush sat there for 7 minutes and did nothing upon learning of the attacks on the twin towers. Here we have Obama on vacation for 7 days and not a peep out of him with regards to this latest attack.

  4. Because bringing down multiple buildings and killing thousands is definitely on the same level as….failing to accomplish anything other than a burnt crotch…?

  5. Except that Bush was sufficiently organized that he could sit there for 7 minutes, or likely far more. Indeed, if as President you’ve got to personally scramble around like a maniac organizing stuff when something entirely forseeable like this happens, you ought to be impeached for incompetence. All your plans should already be set up and ready to go, so that at most all that’s needed is for you to decide Option A or Option B, and of course you ought to have superb communications standing by, and have thought things out ahead of time, so that you can do that by giving a quiet word to an aide no matter where you are or what you’re doing.

This is one thing I despise about how command and control during a crisis is portrayed by Hollywood. It’s always everyone running around like chickens with their heads lopped off, and the correct solution is always dreamt up on the spot and implemented by jury rig and ad hockery. And that is how they present competent leadership! No wonder these people haven’t a clue how to run anything larger than their households, and, given their divorce rate, not always that.
