  1. This is context with President Obama. Transparency in governing which was one of the hall marks of his, “hope and change,” campaign for the Presidency has been nothing more than an long series of lies to the American people.

  2. Let’s see. Obama promises, what some more nuanced readers here would no doubt call “has a position”, not to tax health care benefits and then, no doubt with a show of great reluctance, backs legislation that taxes health care benefits.

It’s also pretty disgusting that he claims to have some way of determining when health insurance plans “don’t make people healthier” (this sounds like it opens the door to subjective taxation and control of the health insurance industry). Government knows better than the people getting the insurance? I doubt it.

  3. Karl,
that the people in D.C. think they know better than any of us about our own situations is both laughable and scary as hell. Mainly because they are so far off the mark on one hand and they keep voting themselves the power to tell us they know better on the other.

  4. Sooooo. Can we say “You Lie!!!” now?

No, because there are no lies there. Note the words “under my plan.”

My view is that Obama is remarkably deceptive even by the standards of recent US presidents. Probably the worst since Nixon though we have yet to find out, if Obama has a similar propensity for crime while in office. But what really boggles me here is how some supporters can excuse his statements on the basis of a weasel phrase in the wrong statement.

Remember the crucial claim is that Obama says:

I’m on record as saying that taxing Cadillac plans that don’t make people healthier, but take money out of their pockets because they’re paying more for insurance than they need to

How does the weasel phrase “in my plan” excuse this lie? Are you going to excuse this one with the observation that Obama’s record has changed since the campaign?

We also ignore that allowing Obama to renege blatantly on compaign promises through trivial application of weasel phrases, is utterly foolhardy. Far as I know or am concerned, the Congressional plans are Obama’s plans. They’re in the same party, Obama strongly supports them. But they tax “Cadillac plans” contrary to his pre-election promises.

  6. How does the weasel phrase “in my plan” excuse this lie?

I assumed the “lie” in question had to do with taxes on those making more than $250k.

As for Cadillac plans, nowhere in the video does Obama say he opposes all taxes on health plans (in fact the statement you quote is about his support for such taxes).

Far as I know or am concerned, the Congressional plans are Obama’s plans.

There are resources available that could remedy this ignorance.

  7. Jim, the next time somebody comes in here and accuses Rand of being a wholly-owned shill of the Republicans, I hope you chime in with your wholly-owned shilling for Barack Obama.
