I think he did the right thing in apologizing. Comparing mentally handicapped people to liberal Democrats is discriminatory and insulting.
You think Emanuel will be thrown under the bus? Or will Obama decide that these days he needs as many friends as he can hang onto?
I was not shocked by an insensitive statement from Rahm, no one should be. This is by no means the worst thing that he will say while managing the Obama Administration. I am considerably more disturbed by the coverage of this story on World News Tonight, which made it a Sarah Palin story. I am a big Diane fan and switched my TiVo when she got the job, but the tone of this report stunk of NBC news politics and I’m not sure I value World News Tonight the same way anymore. Stay neutral.
As someone with a son in the Navy, I also get peaved at the lines comparing Congress’s spending to “drunken sailors.” At least the sailors are spending their own money. No, Congress has all of the fiscal responsibility of a 13 year old girl set loose with her daddy’s platinum card.
1st – I WAS a sailor and not ll of us were drunks. And not all drunks in the military are in the Navy. It’s a stereotype, like black people tap dancing and Republicans playing golf and wanting to own tap dancers!!
Nor did we spend more when drinking. It’s simply that we were often AT SEA for two or more paychecks, with NOTHING to spend money on, so we had more money when we hit the beach, than folks always ashore. Ergo, we just spent more quickly, knowing we were headed back to sea soon. Drinking works the same, OUR ships are dry. Topside anyway.
2nd – I think Rahm needs to apologize to the “retarded” people, and bhe should do so immediately. Here’s a good start.

I was upset when he called fellow Democrats by the R-word. But then I heard that he called them ” ” and when I heard that was part of the outburst, I knew that Mr. Emmanual was OK and his usual self.
