  1. Perhaps one of the primary reasons for this behaviour is that those who place the environment at the center of their belief system reject the theological basis for right and wrong…the environment has no morality other than the survival of the fittest.

  2. I remember reading the study behind this story (and behind the Guardian’s story) a few months ago, but it’s somehow taken this long to become a news story?

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was actually on here that I read about it, but I honestly can’t remember where it was posted.

Either that, or I have significant precognition, and I should start playing the lottery.

So do I, so you may be right about where we saw it before.

  4. I’ve always considered myself an environmentalist; I’m against dumping toxic wastes in rivers, and I like breathable air, disapprove of hunting actually endangered critters, etc.

However, I have another term for so many of the people who call themselves “environmentalist” these days: Sanctimonious hypocritical asshats. (actually, the last word isn’t “asshats”, I use something that sounds similar but is stronger, though I won’t use it here as I’m unsure what the rules here are RE profanity.)

I consider myself a Conservationist. As someone who works in the Environmental field, I hate it when someone calle me an ‘EnvironMENTAList’. I, in no way, want to claim kinship with one particular great fat fool from Tennessee and his technophobic ilk.

Being a Conservationist is alot like being an Environmentalist without being a Douche at the same time. I think it is time the term made a comeback.
