  1. I note that all astronauts seem to focus on destination. Buzz wants Mars. The rest want to go back to the moon. Obama says, let’s do an asteroid.

If we build a real general purpose refuelable spaceship we could go to all destinations. Then it’s just a matter of having good landers. I do think the Moon will slow us down. The Moon is a good place to explore with telerobotics because there’s little time lag. Mars is where we need human explorers.

  2. Really, we could have rovers crawling all over the moon. Let kids on the internet control them. Make it a game. Sell tickets.

  3. Ken,
That is dangerously close to being a good (if not great) idea. Sounds like something D.D. Harriman would come up with.

  4. These kinds of ideas are a very fruitful area to explore with research and technology demonstrations and more prizes like the Google Lunar X-Prize. Note to those researching and developing technology demonstrations for lunar landers: we will need an upper stage and lunar lander that will affordably ferry these small payloads (think kilograms rather than tonnes) off of small launchers (like the Athena or Falcon 1) or as a piggyback payload off a bigger launcher to the lunar surface.

And Sergey Brin would bankroll as Google Moon!!! This time not just on April 1!

This is for sure *one* item I’d have given anything to be able to do for a 6th grade class project!

    Go Ken!

Or David Gump, who had actually been in business with the idea since the 1990s. Look up LunaCorp. David was/is genuinely visionary.
