The Blago Trial

…may turn out to be quite interesting (in the Chinese curse sense) for the president.

[Update a couple minutes later]

The defense wants to subpoena him:

“President Obama has direct knowledge to allegations made in the indictment,” the defense said in its filing. “In addition, President Obama’s public statements contradict other witness statements.”The defense said it still has not received notes from FBI interviews of Obama even though it first sought that material in December.”

Goody. Another opportunity for a Democrat president to perjure himself and obstruct justice.

[Friday afternoon update]

Blago sends a not-so-subtle message to Obama.

It’s not good for Obama. But whether you agree or disagree with his politics, it’s clear that he’s in a difficult position.

His former close buddy, Rezko — “That’s not the Tony Rezko I know” — still swings like some albatross from his neck, and it’s getting quite stinky. It’s hard to transcend the old politics of the past with that dead bird weighing you down.

It’s going to get pretty crowded under that Chicago bus.

  1. Hey, he’s polish and from Chicago, you should be pronouncing the W’s as V’s and the V’s as W’s, like in The Full Nine Yards

  2. Goody. Another opportunity for an anti-Obama conspiracy to turn out to be a media event.

Where did that “whitey” tape get to by the way?

  3. Remind me what Nixon was impeached for? a missing tape recording? = Obstruction? Not gonna happen today.

  4. “Let me make this perfectly clear: I did not have financial relations with that governor. It would be UNPRECEDENTED.”

  5. Dave, it’s in your pants.

A media event would be nice, late but nice. Maybe we’ll get the questions the press forgot to ask before the election.

  6. That’s thr best you’ve got? Sad.

What’s even sadder is that this misspelled nothing is the best that you’ve got. Or it would be, if we gave a damn about what you think. So I guess it’s sad only for you.

  7. The iPhone keyboard is a pain at the best of times. Sorry about that AND anyway, you’re reduced to spelling flames?

    Seriously?

You’ve known me for what? 15 years? My spelling is dire at the best of times but to flame for an r over an e?

    Even sader.

  8. And while I’m at it. For somebody not worthy of your mighty intellect I am impressed at the effort you’ve always put in to responding to me.

  9. For somebody not worthy of your mighty intellect I am impressed at the effort you’ve always put in to responding to me.

Sorry to disappoint, but I’ve never made any effort whatsoever in responding to you, in many years. I could do it in my sleep.

  10. Oh! Snap!

    Do you feel better now?

But seriously Rand, you’re bringing up elements of Blago’s defense?

    Blago?

You don’t feel even remotely soiled using this as an argument? Not in the least?

  11. Do we really need input from someone who is perplexed by an iPhone keyboard? 6 comments, and all I’ve got in relation to the topic is a whiny person is upset that his utopian enlightenment is being interrupted by news stories about a wig wearing spoil sport. I guess Blagojevich should have just shut up and took one for the team. How dare the spoil sport point out that if the government claims he was selling the seat for a federal government position, then perhaps it should explain how the offer a federal government position came to be.

On the issue of the other 5 comments, I noticed Rand that the whiner seems to spend an aweful amount of time making comments on your blog. Have you ever gone to his blog to make comments? I mean, he fumbled his way through a self-described painful procedure to type a response on your blog with an iPhone. Through the pain, he tells us! That’s dedication! Surely Rand, you have made similar efforts to respond to a person willing to suffer pain to write to you.

  12. Nice rant Leland, touched a nerve did I?

” then perhaps it should explain how the offer a federal government position came to be.”

I suspect that you missed an “of” in there. PC keyboard a challenge? Or perhaps a mis-type? Could happen to anybody of course.

And, no, none of the above. It’s far simpler. Blagoveitch could wish me a good morning and I’d need to check the time and where I was before I believed him.

I’m more taken with the rank hypocrisy that Rand is showing by quoting a person I’m fairly sure he doesn’t like, doesn’t trust and believes is a crook, purely because there is an opportunity to beat up Obama.

Watching another 6 years of this level of hysteria can only get funnier by the year.

Obviously he’s a crook and a liar. So is the president. I don’t have to take Blogo’s word for it. There is evidence. Do you understand the meaning of “other witness’ statements”?

Watching another 6 years of this level of hysteria can only get funnier by the year.

So you have both a defective sense of humor, and don’t understand the meaning of the word “hysteria” either?

  14. Obviously he’s a crook and a liar. So is the president. I don’t have to take Blogo’s word for it. There is evidence. Do you understand the meaning of “other witness’ statements”?

Sure there are, and they’re all fine upstanding members of the community too I have no doubt.

Hysteria? (Runs to look it up, checks, nods, comes back and reads, “… he’s a crook and a liar. So is the president.”)

    Yeap. I think it’s a good word.

  15. Rand, you’re making “Bush Derangement” look like a moderate case at the moment. Lie down, relax a little, this just can’t be good for your blood pressure.

  16. Hysteria? (Runs to look it up, checks, nods, comes back and reads, “… he’s a crook and a liar. So is the president.”)

    Yeap. I think it’s a good word.

OK, so you don’t know how to read a dictionary, either.

  17. Watching another 6 years of this level of hysteria can only get funnier by the year.

It is most unfortunate that the same cannot be said of your snide threadcrapping. Oh well. Cheerio!

  18. Nice rant Leland, touched a nerve did I?

Yeah, the one that makes me LMAO off at your stupidity. But hey, keep giving Rand page views. You “Da Man” for suffering through the pain.

  19. Rand, you’re making “Bush Derangement” look like a moderate case at the moment. Lie down, relax a little, this just can’t be good for your blood pressure.

Physician, Heal thyself. Put down the iPhone and pay attention to the world around you. Rand’s blog will do just fine if you take a break from your Rand Derangement. Trust Rand, he’s a running a much better blog than you. He knows what he’s doing.

  20. The thing to remember is that Obama came out of the same political swamp that created El Blago. While it is possible he made it through that mess with clean hands, it’s tough to see exactly how he managed to pick up the turd from the clean end.

  21. I checked the big 3 news web pages and ABC and CBS have 1 story each with lead lines on the news home page. NBC none. ABC’s is Jake Tapper on his Punch page. We have a sitting President named in a brief for a corruption trial and he has close ties to MANY of the participants and we get 2 stories. Can you imagine, Dave, the firestorm were this Bush or any other Rep Prez?

  22. Can you imagine, Dave, the firestorm were this Bush or any other Rep Prez?

I sure can — the innertubes would be so clogged with the “bush lied” meme that you’d swear the western hemisphere was under a massive DOS attack from the Chinese…

  23. Rand, you’re making “Bush Derangement” look like a moderate case at the moment.

That is a new high for even you on the moronic comment meter. After EIGHT YEARS of the daily bat$hit insane drivel from the left directed at Bush there is no way possible Rand could, even if he tried, match it.

  24. Watching another 6 years of this level of hysteria can only get funnier by the year.

It won’t last another 6 years. It can’t. The government will go bankrupt, the dollar will become worthless, social cohesion will dissolve, and people will be gunning each other down in the streets.

You may think that’s funny, but I don’t.

  25. It’s not likely that Obama would respond to a Blago subpoena. He could just use executive privilege, couldn’t he? (Not a lawyer. Don’t pretend to be one.)

  26. I think he has to respond if any of this (communicating about his seat) took place before he was sworn in as President. After that, it gets a little murky for me because then you get into custom vs the actual law.

  27. I personally wish Daveon, Jim & Chris G. would just move on.

Kudos to Rand for putting up with their pollution of his site. It’s important to hear the thoughts of all sides, but the signal to noise ratio from these guys is pretty low.

  28. I’d rather Chris G. and Jim stay.

Daveon, however, is a troll and should move back under his bridge.

  29. His executive privilege exists now. It doesn’t matter if it didn’t exist then, he can stall until he’s no longer president.
