  1. It’s not without precident.

Personally, I’d love to see Concord flying over the Paris Air Show, maybe in formation with a few other big, fast birds.

  2. Elon Musk seems to want to do an electric VTOL supersonic aircraft – there was even a reference to it in his cameo in the Ironman II movie. Range might only be a 100km, but it would still be great for commuting – if one could get past the noise issues…

Personally, I would want to then put a ramjet on it – light, cheap and an extensive range, the electric drive train providing for robust safety, getting up to speed, quietish take off and landing, etc. I suspect this could actually be very cheap to develop and operate, but the noise…

  3. I was at Le Bourget in France to see watch the work being carried out on the Concorde.

This is the most amazing passenger aircraft ever built, to see how amazing visit this advert free site and learn all about this wounderful aircraft, and how you can help us put it back where it belongs, in our skies!

  4. It’s their money, right? In any case it would be nice to see the Great White Bird fly again.

There is something about bureaucrats that makes them hate anything even slightly unusual or that reminds them that you don’t need truckloads of paper to get stuff done. I believe that Blackbird was not only scrapped but all the blueprints and dies were destroyed. Concorde is gorgeous; Blackbird looks evil – I was once within a few feet of one, when it was parked on the deck of that floating aerospace museum in NYC harbour.

  5. Whatever one might say about it, the Concorde is a thing of beauty when standing still and incredible sight when in flight. I enjoyed watching them approach Heathrow from over London while standing in Perry’s back garden with a nice glass of wine in hand…

  6. I walked through the Concorde in Seattle a couple of months back. Like the Blackbird It definitely had that austere functional beauty common place in aerospace design of fifty years ago. Seeing it fly again would be a bit like going for a ride on a steam train – of historical interest but that is all, marveling at the technology within a modern context would just be shameful.

The embarrassing thing is how far we have not come in the interim, I can not really look at these vehicles, which are still impressive even in our time, without a great sense of shame. Please do not resurrect them and put Ayn Rand’s collapsing economy/technology on show, please instead spend that money on building something much better.

  7. They used to fly right over my apartment when I lived in queens. I was on the 16th of a 17 floor building so I got a good look at it when I was paying attention. I agree with Pete, lack of progress is astonishing. What happened to the right stuff of the 60s?
