Since the beginning of the recession (roughly January 2008), some 7.9 million jobs were lost in the private sector while 590,000 jobs were gained in the public one. And since the passage of the stimulus bill (February 2009), over 2.6 million private jobs were lost, but the government workforce grew by 400,000.
I think it’s exactly what they wanted to happen. Have to keep those public union people employed so they can keep providing the campaign cash. Especially when they can pass laws to shut down the opposition.
Well if you actually read the stimulus bill it was government hiring that was directly called out for a LOT of the money. So the problem is that stimulus money hired them but taxpayers have to keep paying for them year after year after year.
And a lot will be SEIU members. Bonus!
Evidently, that has spilled over into the defense sector. The Missile Defense Agency, in particular, is dumping its contractors and hiring civil service employees — and often it’s a case of one-for-one transfer out of the private and into the public sector. From what I’ve heard, it’s 6,000 people in Huntsville alone.
