  1. No, this looks too much like a hastily written, poorly rehearsed sketch to be a conversation between two people who believe what they’re saying.

  2. What’s the surprise? This is exactly how the big lie works. It must be repeated enough that any contrary evidence is immediately dismissed as coming from a crackpot.

  3. Dave was running down all the Journolist2’s talking points:

    a) Brietbart selectively edited the video
    b) He’s a political hack
    c) He’s racist
    d) he’s trying to scare white voters about scary black people.
    e) we need to regulate the media to prevent gross travesties of justice like this from happening, jail people for blogging things WE dont want them to.

  4. There is definitely a sea change with regard to censorship. It used to be regarded with horror any time it was mentioned but now you see the talking heads bobbing up and down in agreement. I never thought I’d see the day. We are in very dangerous territory here.

  5. So THESE are the people about whom Stuart Smalley wrote ‘Lies and the Liars Who Tell Them’.

  6. What you see from Letterman-Maddow is a concise, nearly perfect nutshell summary of the contemporary Left/Liberal worldview.

    1) We are the smartest guys in the room.
    2) What we think is, of course, canonically correct.
    3) People who don’t think the same as us are mostly just stupid; the few smart ones who don’t are knowingly spreading falsehoods for nefarious reasons we can’t ever be bothered to get around to specifying.
    4) The facts are whatever we say they are; pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

These people are not liars; they are convinced we are liars – or idiots. They are true believers. Almost nothing they believe is actually true, but 1) from the above list – a central element of the narcissistic self-regard that also characterizes this mindset – prevents them from ever acknowledging this. When unemployment was under 5% during the Bush administration, these people told us that it was the worst economy since the Great Depression. Now that unemployment is stuck near 10% these same people tell us that we’re in a “Recovery Summer.” We have always been at war with Eastasia. We understand them quite well. They understand us not at all; they lack the capacity.
