  1. I don’t disaree Rand, but Dave Kopel misses the criticism. It’s not that the President is spending too much time on the links; it’s his own assertion that he’s on top of things, while on the links.

For instance, the Christmas Day bombing last year. He didn’t even leave the links when he got the news. Then, a friend with him on the vacation had a child get sick, and he rushed off the links. Friend is important. US safety not so much.

Then there was the BP oil spill and “this is my top priority”, followed by consecutive trips to the links, and no action related to the spill despite foreign nations inquiry how they could help.

Those aren’t criticism of Obama being an avid golfer. It’s criticism that he’s not being honest in his concern for the US. But, if it keeps him on the course and away from signing laws, I’m good with it. Just remember though, he took a few days between back to back vacations to sign the no name law into office. Obama makes time to wreck the economy.

  2. I agree that he’s being a hypocrite about it. He should stop saying things like “I won’t rest until…” unless he doesn’t consider golfing resting.

  3. Typing “golf” in the search box because you’re sure you’ve heard this one before does not equal stalking. Personally, I’d give the award to De Niro.

  4. I’ve often said similar things about Congress. I would be willing to triple the pay of each member of Congress (and members of their staffs, as well) if they would agree to meet only four months per year.

The best state is Congressional recess. The second best state is “gridlock”. The worst state is “getting something done”, or “solving the problems of the country”.

  5. “No man’s life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in session.”

    The truest aphorism in politics.

  6. It really isn’t about the golf, it’s about not getting into the office until 9:30am spending the majority of the rest of the day jetting around the country for fundraisers and speeches. Then coming back to the White House for Party Night. Oh and don’t forget daily trips to the gym for weight lifting and basketball.

Does he even work or is this all one long vacation?

But as Rand said, maybe it is better that Obama isn’t working so much.

I missed that beast. I wonder why the urgency of the “no name” law? Was some state (that is, California or Illinois) going to be downrated in days, if it didn’t secure funding now for next year? Sounds like someone might have had one of those states on watch and Pelosi got word of it.

  8. I remember a comment by some CEO – he said his job was easy, he only had to make three decisions a year – but they had to be the right ones.

If Obama had done nothing but play golf and make three really good decisions a year, he would have been a truly great president.
