  1. No surprise there. The scientific community has been against manned space since Apollo since its a competitor for research funding. And don’t expect SciAm to stop invoking “The One’s” name, they’ve specialized in left wing “political science” for decades now.

  2. The plan, though, fell apart when Bush failed to come through with the money to implement it.

Shouldn’t this be: the plan fell through when the NASA administrator chose a means that didn’t give realistic consideration of the likely funds available.

Where politicians have failed NASA is in not letting it do its job.

or… Where NASA has failed is in not doing it’s job.

  3. But Rand, it is the Obama plan. He owns it.

Mark, a lie repeatedly often enough does not become the truth.

You know the concept of private human spaceflight did not originate in the head of Barack Obama, no matter how hard you pretend to be ignorant.

You know that because you were trashing commercial space before Obama ever took public office. Back then, you called it the Gingrich plan (although Gingrich was not the first, either). You trashed Gingrich before you trashed Obama.

What does it say about the big-government wing of the Republican Party when you conflate Newt Gingrich and Barack Obama, and neither one is big-government enough you? And what does it say about your space policy when you can’t defend it honestly but have to resort to misrepresentation and ad-hominem attacks?

Is this how you earned your “B.A. in History,” Mark? Are you proud of the way you behave here?

  4. So let me get this straight – Obama announces a plan, puts people in charge of implementing it and goes to bat for legislation to make it happen but it’s not his plan? On what planet?

I think your Obama Derangement Syndrom is showing.

  5. Whether or not it is Obama’s plan is beside the point. I just wish they’d stop calling it that, because it’s going to make it a lot harder to sell to the new Congress. Just call it “NASA’s new direction, more in keeping with the Bush VSE.”
