The Climate Of Civility

What is wrong with these people? Remember, just like “racist,” when they call others misogynist, it’s pure projection.

[Update a few minutes later]

Speaking of projection, now the left is attacking Herman Cain. Guess he got too uppity for them. Remember this the next time a moron like Janeane Garafolo calls the Tea Partiers racist.

[Update mid-morning]

A little good news on the Lara Logan front — the Journal is reporting that it was “not a rape.” Which raises the question — what is a “sexual assault” against a woman that is “not a rape”?

[Update late morning]

Funny, she doesn’t look Jewish to me. The mob was shouting “Jew, Jew” as they attacked her. Sure gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling about the prospects for peace between the new government and Israel.

  1. Jeez, he might as well have said, “How was she dressed? B!#@& was asking for it!” and at least pick up some humor points with his Lefty readers.

  2. But he’s a Leftist, so by definition he’s our moral and intellectual superior. Just ask any Leftist and they’ll tell you.

  3. Sad, the guy semi-apologizes later but can’t help himself and starts into her again. Leftist hatred trumps human decency.

On another note, if you’re on the Daily Caller website, read the Jonathan Strong piece Earth to Birthers – it’s good for a laugh as he twists logic and turns hearsay into fact trying to prove there’s no story there.

    Indeed, to wit:

When race minstrelsy was America’s most popular form of mass entertainment, black actors would often have to pretend to be white men, who then in turn would put on the cork to play the role of the “black” coon, Sambo, or Jumping Jim Crow. Adding insult to injury, in a truly perverse and twisted example of the power of American white supremacy black vaudevillians would often pretend to be white in order to denigrate black people for the pleasures of the white gaze.

In total, CPAC is a carnival and a roadshow for reactionary Conservatives. It is only fitting that in the great tradition of the freak show, the human zoo, the boardwalk, and the great midway world’s fairs of the 19th and 20th centuries, that there is a Borneo man, a Venus Hottentot or a tribe of cannibals from deepest darkest Africa or Papua New Guinea on display. For CPAC and the White Conservative imagination, Herman Cain and his black and brown kin are that featured attraction.

Quoted nearly in full because, really, it is so disgusting that summary and synopsis do it no justice – one must read it to believe it. This is no mere off-the-cuff cliché’d “house negro” racism. Prose this rich, detailed and self-indulgent reveals the kind of sick obsession usually reserved only for serial killers.

  5. Which raises the question — what is a “sexual assault” against a woman that is “not a rape”?

I’m assuming what they mean is no penetration. That’s somewhat good to hear, but I’m fairly certain being heavily groped by a gang of men while being occassionally slapped around will leave a long traumatic scar on one’s psyche. Perhaps if we took some other “brave”, “strong”, “unbias” journalist out in the street, stripped them down, and then slapped them around; they’ll have a better understanding of the limits of nuance.

  6. Which raises the question — what is a “sexual assault” against a woman that is “not a rape”?

Are you really seriously asking that question? Presumably rape means penetration, and sexual assault is everything leading up to that.

While not quite a gang rape, it sounds like it was not that far short. The brutal sexual and physical violence went on for half an hour and was serious enough that she spent a couple of days in hospital.

To me this sounds like a rather sickening crime. How seriously would such a crime be treated in the US?

  7. Sounds to me that some celebrating Egyptian men tried to kiss the pretty reporter – as is the tradition – and she objected. Responding to aggression from a woman, in their backwards way, they beat her. Hopefully she knew this could happen and can write it off as just part of the risk of reporting in countries where social equality for women isn’t the norm.

  8. Trent, you may wish to do a little reading. Egypt has a serious problem with sexual harassment, it is the rule not the exception, and likely somewhat representative of rates of more severe sexual violence. The vast majority of rapes in Egypt go unreported, reporting is strongly discouraged.

Posted links not passing spam filter…

It concluded that 83% of Egyptian females and 98% of foreign females had been exposed to some form of sexual harassment in Egypt – almost half of them on a daily basis.

Interestingly sexual harassment seems to be independent of degree of clothing cover.

  9. Pete, what’s that got to do with anything? The media is reporting a “sexual assault” and when asked for more information have provided the information that it “wasn’t a rape”. Therefore rape statistics are irrelevant to the conversation.

  10. Sounds to me that some celebrating Egyptian men tried to kiss the pretty reporter – as is the tradition – and she objected.

Trent, this is either an incredibly naive or an incredibly offensive statement – please, Google is your friend. She was called a Jew and physically and sexually assaulted for half an hour – requiring hospitalization. Do a little research and you will see that sexual harassment and violence is something of a national sport in Egypt, a positive spin is extremely unlikely.

  11. Funny, she doesn’t look Jewish to me. The mob was shouting “Jew, Jew” as they attacked her. Sure gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling about the prospects for peace between the new government and Israel.

Remember that most of Egypt’s jewish population has been expelled, like in most Middle Eastern countries, since Israel was (re-)established in 1948. So you can count on two hands (okay, take off your shoes and count your toes) the number of people in Tahrir Squre who’ve ever actually seen a jew.

Most people in the world live in places lacking the U.S.’s diversity of population. They look, think, act, dress, work, worship, steal, read, and raise their children just like everybody else. For many, they have little concept of how many people are un-like them and an inflated concept of how significant their local majority actually is.

Lara Logan almost certainly didn’t look like the Egyptian women they’ve known all their lives, was obviously foreign and non-muslim, and since jews are foreign and non-muslim, logically she had to be jewish.

For another example of this sort of reasoning, see “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”

Oh, and she didn’t have it coming to her either. Prayers for her swift and full recovery.

  12. So when will we stop arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, and start turning our guns on the Leftist subhuman trash? If every gun owner kills one leftist, we will solve the problem of these evil parasitic demons once and for all, and create heaven on earth.

  13. If every gun owner kills one leftist, we will solve the problem of these evil parasitic demons once and for all, and create heaven on earth.

Unless, of course, killing people who merely disagree with us creates hell on Earth, which seems the usual result of such policies.

  14. I might add that we already are living in hell on earth. Millions of children are being molested by the far Left as you read this sentence. Gun owners are isolated from society, and prepped for their ultimate extermination. Demoncrat thugs line every street, big evil grins on their devil faces, waiting to pick off stragglers and rape them.

  15. Pete, the story changes with every retelling. She required hospitalization because she was beaten.

Nope, the story changes with every rereading – on your behalf.

Here is a hypothetical question for you – which would you prefer?
You were gently restrained in a manner that caused you no physical harm while twenty men came by you and each physically kissed and fondled you, everywhere, again in a gentle manner that caused no physical harm. Or, you get beaten up and spend a night or two in hospital before making a complete recovery?

Would you consider the first scenario to be an assault on your person even though no physical harm was done to you?

Now, what if both happened at once and the physical beating included a sexual beating – still, no penetration, just serious and physically harming kissing/biting/groping/whatever all over. How would this make you feel? Would you consider it a sexual assault?

  16. Pete, thanks for proving my point.

To be honest Trent, I have no idea what point that might be. I have not really been able to directly connect any of your comments in this thread to anything that I or anyone else has said. I sort of got a sense that you perhaps do not necessarily see sexual assault as an overt form of assault and maybe we had some semantic differences somewhere around there. However your suggestion that celebrating Egyptian men may have tried kissing a pretty reporter and then responded violently to her rebuffing them did not leave much room for interpretation and is incredibly naive or offensive to women – I am hoping the former. Definitely it would be nice to think that this brutal physical and sexual assault was just a big misunderstanding however such violent sexual behavior is unfortunately very common in Egypt.

  17. Sigh, my point is that you have no idea what happened and yet you’ve managed to make up different stories, each worse than the next.

I am not sure where you get that from, I have been quite consistent in my regurgitation of news reports. She was beaten and sexually assaulted (for 30 minutes), but not raped, in the middle of an angry mob. While I do not know the degree of sexual assault it was definitely not the fairytale misunderstanding you suggested.

  18. Pete,

Look back at what Trent wrote. I think the typical response you would get from a reasonable person is “Pig”. Now consider the saying about wrestling with a pig. I think you see the delimma.
