  1. Personally, those colleges have more to gain from ROTC than the military has to gain from their graduates. “Best and brightest” my ass.

  2. What I don’t understand is why on earth trannies would want to serve in the military? It’s not exactly the sort of place where they are concerned with your wants and needs (most transsexuals are extremely fragile and needy in the emotional department, to say the least). Also, for the most part military life is mostly boring and tedious as well as grueling. Transsexuals base their lifestyles on how oppressed they are as the sex they were born; why would they want to enter an organization where you are constantly under orders and basically have no freedom to do what you want?

Military life is a sacrifice for the greater good. Transsexuals are all about “sacrificing” (stuff they don’t want, like their boy or girl parts) for their own good. That’s why they can’t fit into military life — it’s not the change of personal equipment, that’s just the outward manifestation of their psyches.

  3. I was focusing on transsexuals, people who actually change (or try to) their sex, but most of the above holds for transvestites too. In the military you have to wear the clothing you’re issued; no frilly underpants and bras for you IRL, Corporal Klinger. On the other hand, transvestites can be persuaded to leave their costumes at home. And then, you know what a transvestite is without their opposite-sex clothing on? A man or a woman.

To “run away from home” (i.e. mil-fare).

  5. I’ve long thought they should open the doors to anyone who is willing to try. Boot camp / basic training rigors shake out 90% of those who can’t hang, and the rest of the ‘can’t hang in the military types’ don’t last long after that.

Indoor plumbing, outdoor plumbing, conversion kits for plumbing…let ’em all try. Blind crippled, crazy…you can either do it, or you can’t. I don’t know of any place I was ever stationed where there weren’t gays. I never, ever saw it cause trouble.

Let me be REALLY unpopular. WOMEN in the military cause MORE trouble than gay men do. Rarely is there a falling out of service members over any guys boyfriend. But WOMEN being on bases, on ships, in work units has caused PLENTY of trouble.

Women on the base is bad enough, but on SHIPS it’s just stupid. There’s a reason why they don’t house men and women together in jail. Too small a community for stability. Most ships are smaller than jails or prisons. If that’s harsh, try this.

How many people would suggest to their daughter, “…gee Marsha, we heard about a really, really small island, where there are 300 men and 6 women, your father and I think you should go live there to fight for women’s equality in America!!!”

I ask you, just how damned stupid does that sound on the face of reality? But that is precisely the situation in today’s Navy.

Andrea, you are confusing a political belief from a medical / psyche problem. The transsexual feels wrong as the gender they were born in. Nothing about that says they must be screaming, needy queens, they get that from the scene around them.

The problem with that is, boot camp will altered to allow the non-performers to pass.

  7. “The transsexual feels wrong as the gender they were born in. Nothing about that says they must be screaming, needy queens”

Um. “Feelings” are not a medical problem. You know, sometimes I wake up and think “life would be so much easier if I had been born a man.” You know, no period, stronger muscles, etc. But I don’t ever get the urge to take the knife to myself to make a fake peen or take meds that do weird things to my hormones (which as we all know have NO effect on our mental processes [/sarc]). So yeah, lots of transgender folks don’t scream and emote like the stereotype, but they are still focused on themselves, their own personal needs — not outward towards others. This also affects their political outlook and everything else. I don’t think people like that are suited for the military.

And you know what? A lot of other people who aren’t transgendered are the same way — self-centered, self-involved, everything is about them and their needs. They don’t belong in the military either. I’m not suited for the military. I am extremely self-centered, lazy, etc. Should I force myself into the military because I want to “prove myself” or something?

You’re letting your feelings get in the way, Andrea.

Before you spout off on transgendered, you should read up on the subject. I suggest Max Valerio’s bio, for a starter – https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Max_Wolf_Valerio

  9. Oh wow, that is like the greatest comeback ever to someone who disagrees with you: tell them they are basing their opinions on “feelings.” I’m so going to use that from now on. It’s so much easier than doing all that thinking and reasoning stuff.

And with all due respect, no, I’m not going to read some canned Wikipedia article. See, I’m scared of their completely facts-based totally biased methodology. I need more feeling-based stuff.

  10. Oops, I meant “totally un-biased methodology.” Because we all know that Wikipedia only lets people who are totally objective and have no ulterior motives write for them.
