  1. And you want Private Co. launch services, a flexible architecture and fuel depots.

I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m just mentioning that most people don’t move off their “best ideas” absent a significant force applied over the correct fulcrum.

Also, your arguments are based in economics as much as “space engineering”. And it’s my experience that economics is completely Greek to most of the population, even the “smart” ones. Like Zubrin.

  2. We asked one simple question:

If you could ask President Obama and Congress to do one thing related to your field that would be for the good of the economy and the country, what would it be and why?

Resign. If you have to ask why, you haven’t been paying attention.

  3. I like Jack McDevitt’s response – get the nation’s finances in order.
It’s the next best answer to rickl’s “resign” … and realistically it means the same thing.

  4. No no.. wait.. I actually bothered to click on the link and read what Zubrin wrote. He actually *advocated someone else’s program*, this is news!!

I think a lot of people have asked: if the Mars Exploration Rovers have been so damn successful, why didn’t they send two more? Perhaps with some minor improvements, sure, but essentially just repeat the mission. It’s a big planet and the rovers have only explored a tiny part of it.

  5. Agree with the send more new rovers with easily engineered upgrades. The basic landing and motive concepts work. Newer space validated processors and improved vision (microscope) would be reasonable upgrades. Instead of spending a couple hundred million with two or more launches, we have a new risky multi-billion dollar lander that I fear will augur in.

  6. What rickl said. Government needs to just get out of the way. Disband NASA, reinstate NACA with all new people. Not gonna happen, of course.
