  1. It is probably a mix of ignorance and intent.

Interesting article. There really are not enough numbers in it to make the case for me but I will go ask an accountant friend about the issues raised. Stories like this usually only get part of it right.

“Worse is the provision mandating we report annually to the IRS every vendor from whom we purchase more than $600 of goods and services during the year.”

IIRC this provision was already stripped from Obamacare.

  2. Huh, turns out that the Form 1099 stuff hasn’t been repealed yet, but looks very close.

The U.S. Senate could vote this afternoon on repeal of a tax-compliance measure included in last year’s health-care overhaul, Majority Leader Harry Reid said today.

“We’re in good shape now to resolve the 1099 matter this afternoon,” said Reid, a Nevada Democrat.

The House already passed this (I gather), so I think it’ll slide on to Obama next. Remarkable how long it takes to reverse even the most obvious flaws of Obamacare.

  3. Good catch Karl.

“A Senate version of the repeal, passed in February as part of a broader aviation bill, ”

“Reid has said he prefers the House version of the repeal. The amendment being considered in the Senate closely tracks that bill and is sponsored by Senator Mike Johanns, a Nebraska Republican.”

So which one will Obama sign, the one already passed or the one working its way through? Why would Reid prefer the Johanns version?

“The Johanns amendment could run into trouble if Democrats proceed with a plan to attach a separate amendment. Senator Robert Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, has offered an amendment that would require further study of the effects of the offset Johanns is proposing. ”

    Oh never mind.

  4. I think this is just another indication of how useless the previous Congress was. They couldn’t even correct an obvious problem in key legislation in nine or so months (much less prevent it from getting in, in the first place).

Every so often, I search through news stories to see if any of the Obamacare cases have yet reached the Supreme Court. I think it would be appropriate justice for Obamacare to fall before the 2012 election, but the Supreme Court probably won’t be that fast.

  5. Is this a purposeful plan to destroy capitalism? Or is Obama just the most inexperienced, incompetent man to ever occupy the White House? Is this all about Obama trying to redistribute our wealth? Is Obama a small man trying to punish small business owners for having the audacity to reject his plan to put Big Brother in charge of our lives and businesses? Or is Obama simply trying to starve his political opposition, because he understands that small business owners are the biggest contributors to conservative causes?

Yes to all of the above. Those aren’t either/or propositions.
