I’m thinking that Elon may be able to see past his government involvement to a future where government is mostly left behind. If not, we have no more future in space than we have here on earth.
It’s not about the technology. It’s about vision. What we need are bankers supporting a settlement charter.
We already have more than enough volunteer willing to take the risks even before the necessary ISRU research.
Banks supporting a settlement charter could ignore the government and just start sending colonists out. Those players needed would be happy to go along for the free enterprise ride.
