  1. In 2009, he proposed zapping a North Korean missile site with laser weapons. (“Beam me up, Mr. Speaker!” as former Rep. James Traficant, D-Ohio, used to say in the ’90s.)

    My first thought when I read this was that Gingrich was probably talking about some sort of laser ABM system and Healy didn’t understand the difference.

    Then I watched the video clip. From the context, it’s quite apparent that “laser or other type device” meant laser- or other guided munition. To infer that he wanted to attack North Korea with phasers is just plain goofy.

  2. Ayn Rand was a great believer in cliffs and their power to persuade, either through common sense, or as a cautionary tail. We have slowly build nets along the edge of every cliff with which life presents us. The unintended consequence is that the nets are now filled with the incompetent and ignorant and willfully irresponsible (see OWS). Well the anchors are giving weigh. Ayn Rand will have the last laugh.
