  1. My high school chemistry class ceiling showed the scars of a small-scale version of this going bad. I didn’t witness the event, but apparently, the chemistry demonstration in a beaker works with pieces of sodium smaller than a pencil eraser, and doesn’t scale up without ceiling-marking consequences…

  2. If they allow an EPA branch office on mars we can just all hang it up and wait for the earth to die. Intelligent life somewhere else will have to fill the galaxy.

Or we could teach personal responsibility. I’m sorry, is that too weird a concept?

    1. You know they don’t think that way right? Environmentalists consider the *lack* of life on Mars to be “pristine” and should remain that way. Have a read of Red Mars sometime, people actually think like that.

  3. I worked a couple of years on the Enrico Fermi unit II nuclear reactor on the shores of Lake Erie in Monroe Mi. One of the old pipe fitters who had worked at the Enrico Fermi unit I, liquid Na cooled reactor, told me that sometimes for fun at lunch they’d get a coffee can and scoop out some spare Na from a drum and toss it into the lake. Big fun! BTW, Enrico Fermi I nearly melted down several years before 3 mile island. It was shut down by the time I got there. Someone told me that a book was writing about it, something like “The Day We Almost Lost Detroit”?
